Job Description

A Senior Accountant is a key member of the finance team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the financial records. This role involves overseeing accounting operations, managing financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. The Senior Accountant plays a crucial part in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, providing insights and recommendations that support decision-making processes. As a leader in the accounting department, the Senior Accountant mentors junior staff and collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive financial efficiency and improve processes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong analytical mindset, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex financial concepts effectively.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes and adjust journal entries.
  • Manage and reconcile balance sheets and income statements regularly.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities, providing financial insights and analysis.
  • Coordinate audits and manage relationships with external auditors for accurate reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies to maintain transparency and efficiency.
  • Mentor and guide junior accounting staff to build a skilled finance team.
  • Analyze financial data and present financial reports to senior management.
  • Participate in ERP system improvements, identifying and solving inefficiencies.
  • Collaborate with various departments to align financial objectives across the organization.
  • Monitor financial procedures to ensure internal controls are followed effectively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of five years of accounting experience, preferably in a senior role.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and financial systems, such as ERP.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail for problem-solving.
  • Effective communication skills for reporting and presentations to stakeholders.
  • Relevant accounting certifications such as CPA or CMA are highly preferred.
