Job Description

The role of a Safety Officer in construction is critical in ensuring that projects comply with safety regulations and standards, thus safeguarding the well-being of all employees and stakeholders involved. A Safety Officer works onsite at construction projects to constantly monitor and implement safety measures. Their primary goal is to reduce work-related accidents, injuries, and incidents by proactively identifying hazards and implementing preventive measures. The position demands a detailed understanding of federal, state, and local safety laws and strong leadership abilities to promote a culture of safety within the organization. The Safety Officer collaborates closely with management and construction crews to provide continuous safety training and awareness among workers, facilitate inspections, and serve as a point of contact for safety communication. This role requires extensive knowledge of safety practices and a commitment to enforcing them to minimize risk on construction sites.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections of the construction site to identify hazards and risks.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and standards.
  • Develop and implement safety policies to prevent workplace injuries and accidents.
  • Organize safety training programs and workshops for construction workers and management.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine the cause and implement preventive measures.
  • Coordinate with local authorities and stakeholders to ensure regulatory safety compliance is met.
  • Maintain records of compliance activities and ensure proper documentation is filed and accessible.
  • Facilitate emergency drills and guide employees on emergency response procedures.
  • Assist in developing construction site emergency procedures and first aid measures.
  • Ensure that personal protective equipment (PPE) is available and properly used by workers.
  • Collaborate with project managers and construction crew leaders to enhance site safety.
  • Communicate and instill the importance of safety to maintain a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Safety Officer in construction.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state construction safety regulations.
  • Certifications like Official Permit Issued By the Dubai Muncipalty;s (HSC), OSHA 30-Hour Training, CSP, or CHST are highly desirable.
  • Strong observational and leadership skills to identify and mitigate risks efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective training delivery and report writing.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful or emergency situations on site.
