Job Description

As a Safety Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and health of employees and the work environment. You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining occupational safety programs, adhering to legal and industry standards, and promoting safe work practices. Your primary objective is to prevent workplace accidents and injuries by identifying risks, conducting safety inspections, and providing necessary training to employees. You will collaborate with management, staff, and external bodies to foster a culture that prioritizes safety. This position requires strong analytical skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to communicate effectively to cultivate a safe and compliant workplace.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections to identify potential hazards within the workplace environment.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety protocols and emergency response plans.
  • Provide safety training and education programs to all levels of employees.
  • Investigate incidents to determine root causes and implement preventative measures.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational safety laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and recommendations related to safety audits and inspections.
  • Collaborate with management to develop workplace safety improvement strategies.
  • Monitor and ensure availability and proper use of safety equipment.
  • Coordinate safety drills and emergency evacuations regularly to prepare employees.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, and safety programs.
  • Liaise with external agencies regarding safety regulations and best practices.
  • Advise management on changes in safety legislation that may affect operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, health, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a safety officer role essential.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to identify safety risks effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for safety training.
  • Certification in safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) considered a significant advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to foster a safe workplace culture.
