Job Description

A Registered Nurse specializing in the Operation Theatre is a crucial member of the surgical team, playing a vital role in preparing for and providing care during surgical procedures. This role requires a nurse to work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth execution of surgical operations. The nurse is responsible for maintaining a sterile environment, ensuring all surgical instruments and equipment are available, and monitoring the patient's condition throughout the procedure. This role demands a high level of technical skill, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm under pressure, ensuring patient safety and successful surgical outcomes. An effective Operation Theatre Registered Nurse is compassionate, highly organized, and possesses excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with the surgical team.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare surgical instruments and supplies while adhering to sterile techniques.
  • Assist the surgical team in gowning and gloving procedures accurately.
  • Monitor the patient's vital signs and report any significant changes to the surgeon.
  • Ensure the availability and functionality of necessary surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Coordinate with anesthesiologists to administer anesthesia and monitor patient responses.
  • Document the surgical procedure, patient responses, and any incidents meticulously.
  • Maintain a sterile field to prevent infections and assure successful surgical outcomes.
  • Manage and organize surgical instruments, ensuring all are accounted for post-procedure.
  • Provide post-operative care instructions to patients and their families or caregivers.
  • Address any complications during surgery by following prescribed protocols promptly.
  • Attend and participate in regular surgical team meetings and training sessions.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to improve patient care and surgical procedures.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for practicing professionally.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working in an Operating Theatre or similar setting.
  • Exceptional knowledge of surgical instruments, procedures, and safety protocols is essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for team collaboration.
  • Ability to stay calm and perform efficiently under high-pressure situations.
  • Competent in operating and troubleshooting surgical equipment and machinery.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and emergency calls.
