Job Description

As a Registered Nurse in the Operation Theatre, you will play a pivotal role in providing specialized care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. You'll be part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to maintaining high standards of patient safety and care. You will work closely with surgeons, anesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that the operating room is adequately prepared for each procedure and that patients receive optimal care before, during, and after surgery. This role requires a strong ability to work under pressure, exceptional attention to detail, and a comprehensive understanding of surgical procedures and protocols. Your expertise will contribute significantly to the smooth running of the theatre and the wellbeing of patients.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating room with necessary equipment and sterile instruments for procedures.
  • Assist surgeons during operations by providing instruments and other sterile items needed.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and assess their conditions throughout the surgical process.
  • Administer medications and perform tasks as directed by the surgical team leader.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain patient safety.
  • Maintain a sterile environment to prevent infections and adhere to hygiene standards.
  • Record and document pertinent patient data and surgical outcomes for the medical records.
  • Coordinate with the anesthetic nurse and anesthetist to provide seamless patient care.
  • Act swiftly and effectively during emergencies to support the surgical team.
  • Educate patients and families on preoperative and postoperative care and expectations.
  • Maintain and ensure proper functioning of all surgical equipment and machines.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance nursing skills.

Requirements

  • Current RN license with good standing in the applicable state or country.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years' experience working in an operation theatre environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in high-pressure and fast-paced situations.
  • Advanced knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterilization techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with healthcare teams and patients.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to nursing best practices.
