The position of Registered Nurse - Operating Theater offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic surgical team committed to delivering excellent patient care. This role is pivotal in overseeing the preparation and management of a safe and sterile surgical environment within the operating theater. The candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. This includes assisting with the development of operating room policies and ensuring compliance with established protocols. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt swiftly to the rapidly changing demands of the surgical environment. Furthermore, the Registered Nurse will effectively collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that each patient receives outstanding care. 


Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating theater and ensure all surgical instruments are sterilized.
  • Maintain aseptic techniques and assist in controlling surgical site infections.
  • Collaborate with surgeons to develop comprehensive patient care plans.
  • Monitor patient vitals and manage preoperative and postoperative care.
  • Assist anesthetists with the preparation and administration of anesthesia.
  • Conduct pre-surgery checks and confirm patient identification and procedure.
  • Ensure all surgical documentation is complete and properly maintained.
  • Facilitate communication between surgical team members for optimal efficiency.
  • Manage supply inventory, ensuring all surgical materials are available and ready.
  • Support patients and families by providing clear information and reassurance.
  • Act promptly in emergency situations, using critical decision-making skills.
  • Educate junior nurses and students in operating room procedures and policies.


Requirements

  • Hold a valid nursing license.
  • Possess a bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent recognized qualification.
  • Demonstrate a minimum of two years' experience in an operating theater setting.
  • Exhibit proficiency in handling specialized surgical instruments and machinery.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure in a clinical environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills to effectively interact with patients and staff.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated with healthcare advances.
