Job Description

As a Registered Nurse specializing in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), you will be an integral part of a dedicated team providing high-quality care to critically ill newborns. In the NICU, you will work with infants who need specialized treatment and attention due to premature birth, congenital disabilities, or other life-threatening conditions. This role demands a compassionate, detail-oriented professional who can perform in an intense and often unpredictable environment. Your expert knowledge and dedication to neonatal care will allow you to make a profound impact on the lives of the most vulnerable patients and their families. You will collaborate closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, respiratory therapists, lactation consultants, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive and appropriate care is delivered around the clock.


Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to critically ill or premature newborns in the NICU.
  • Monitor vital signs, including heart rate, oxygen levels, and blood pressure.
  • Administer medications and treatments accurately, following physician's orders.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to formulate and execute care plans.
  • Educate and support families, addressing their concerns and questions.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of patient information and care activities.
  • Utilize specialized equipment proficiently to aid in the treatment and monitoring of patients.
  • Perform life-saving measures such as CPR, suctioning, and intubation as necessary.
  • Assist in procedures such as central line insertions and blood transfusions.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control standards and NICU protocols.
  • Conduct regular assessments of newborns’ responses to medical interventions.
  • Participate in continuous education programs to stay current with NICU best practices.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the applicable state or jurisdiction.
  • At least one year of experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) setting.
  • Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle high-stress situations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate families and collaborate with teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
