Job Description

The position of a Registered Nurse – NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) is crucial in providing specialized nursing care to critically ill newborns and premature infants in a hospital's NICU unit. The role involves working closely with a team of healthcare professionals to assess, plan, and manage the care of infants requiring intensive observation and treatment. The Registered Nurse in NICU will perform complex medical procedures, monitoring, and therapeutic interventions tailored to the unique needs of neonates. This position demands high levels of empathy, attention to detail, and commitment to providing the highest standard of neonatal care. The ideal candidate should have strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities

  • Administer care and monitor the health of newborns in the NICU unit.
  • Educate and support parents regarding the treatment and care of their infants.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals in patient care planning.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate medical records of neonatal patients at all times.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to NICU protocols.
  • Identify changes in newborns' symptoms and report findings to the medical team immediately.
  • Operate and monitor specialized NICU equipment, including incubators and ventilators.
  • Provide assistance during medical procedures and emergencies in the NICU unit.
  • Participate in continuous education and training relevant to neonatal care advancement.
  • Ensure adherence to all hospital policies and procedures concerning patient confidentiality.
  • Initiate and facilitate neonatal resuscitation procedures when necessary and appropriate.
  • Support the psychosocial needs of families dealing with premature and ill infants.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license .
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital's NICU setting required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited program.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is mandatory for this role.
  • Excellent communication skills for interaction with parents and healthcare team.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong attention to detail and the capacity to make swift critical decisions.
