About the role
As an RD&A Sr Scientist – Sensory, you will play a key role in designing and executing sensory and consumer research to support product innovation and development. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver actionable insights that drive product success in the market.
Key responsibilities
Building both descriptive and consumer skills and product expertise in a dynamic environment by managing sensory and consumer projects, supporting client studies and participating in the product development cycle. Applies sound, scientific practices and techniques to projects.
Experienced in conducting all phases of sensory and/or consumer testing in order to generate sound sensory data which the project team can use to make better business decisions and drive project success.
Experienced in descriptive analysis and the statistical analysis of advanced descriptive methods. Recruiting and training an external descriptive panel, panel management
Familiar with advanced sensory TI methods (e.g., TDS. TOS), Mouthfeel terminology, etc.) and panel leadership.
Knowledgeable on conducting advanced consumer methods (e.g, Drivers of Liking, Emotions, Consumption studies, etc.). Familiar with working with outside agencies and/or setting up an external consumer panel is a plus.
Works with project teams to identify opportunities where sensory and consumer product testing can be used most efficiently and effectively. Must be able to effectively lead, prioritize work.
Recommends clear actionable objectives and the test methodology to be used to answer these objectives. Knowledgeable in identifying product insights, drawing conclusions and communicating recommendations & next steps to the project team and strategic players.
Contributes and leads Sensory Initiatives, functional basic research projects including methodology development, training initiatives, alternative and creative ways to present statistical data, etc.
Design, plan, and execute sensory and consumer research using both established and innovative methodologies.
Provide technical leadership to generate insights that guide new product development.
Utilize internal discriminative panels and external trained descriptive panels effectively.
Develop and implement new methodologies to enhance innovation and sensory quality.
Train and manage internal sensory panels across relevant product categories.
Prioritize and manage multiple sensory projects in a dynamic environment.
Build strong relationships with stakeholders through effective communication and collaboration.
Troubleshoot sensory-related issues and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
Stay current with international standards and technical developments in sensory science.
Qualifications and skills
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sensory Science, Food Science, Experimental Psychology, or Neuroscience.
Minimum 8 years of experience in sensory or consumer science, preferably within the food and beverage industry.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects at various stages of development in a fast-paced environment.
Strong stakeholder management and workload prioritization skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
Collaborative team player with strong influencing skills.
Creative, curious, and growth-oriented mindset.
Proficiency in experimental design, sensory and statistical software such as EyeQuestion and XLStat.
Knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative consumer research methods.
Experience working with Middle Eastern markets is highly desirable.
