Job Description

A Radiology Technician plays a crucial role in the healthcare industry by capturing and processing medical images to assist physicians in diagnosing diseases and conditions. Working under the guidance of radiologists, they utilize imaging equipment, such as X-rays, CT scanners, and MRI machines, to take diagnostic images of patients. Their role is essential in helping practitioners make accurate medical decisions and develop treatment plans. Radiology Technicians must not only be skilled in operating complex imaging technology but also demonstrate strong interpersonal skills as they often interact with patients who may be anxious or uncomfortable during the procedure. Precision, attention to detail, and strict adherence to safety protocols are essential characteristics for success in this position.


Responsibilities

  • Operate imaging equipment such as X-rays, CT, and MRI machines to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Prepare patients for radiological procedures by explaining the process and ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Position patients correctly and ensure immobilization to capture accurate diagnostic images.
  • Follow physician instructions regarding the area of the body to be scanned and the type of images needed.
  • Maintain and adjust equipment to ensure imaging quality and adherence to safety standards.
  • Utilize protective equipment and procedures to ensure patient and staff safety from radiation exposure.
  • Develop imaging films or digital data for review by radiologists and other medical personnel.
  • Record patient information, medical history, and imaging processes in the health record system.
  • Assist radiologists during complex procedures and take additional images as required.
  • Monitor patient reactions during procedures and provide additional assistance if needed.
  • Collaborate with healthcare staff to ensure efficient workflow and optimum patient care.
  • Conduct regular maintenance checks and troubleshooting of imaging equipment to ensure operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or certification in Radiologic Technology from an accredited program.
  • Valid and current state radiologic technologist license to practice professionally.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience operating various types of imaging equipment in a clinical setting.
  • Strong knowledge of safety guidelines and protocols related to radiology procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare teams.
  • Ability to provide empathic patient care and maintain composure in challenging situations.
