Job Description

A Radiographer, also known as a radiologic technologist, plays a crucial role in the healthcare industry. This specialist is responsible for capturing images of a patient's body using diagnostic imaging equipment such as X-rays, CT scanners, and MRI machines. These images are vital for physicians to diagnose and develop treatment plans for various medical conditions. Radiographers must have a keen eye for detail, as well as excellent interpersonal skills, as they often work directly with patients to ensure their safety and comfort during imaging procedures. The role requires a strong understanding of anatomy, pathology, and radiography principles, as well as the ability to operate sophisticated imaging technologies efficiently and safely.


Responsibilities

  • Perform radiographic examinations using X-ray, MRI, or CT equipment as instructed by medical personnel.
  • Ensure patient safety by adhering to safety protocols and maintaining equipment standards.
  • Explain imaging procedures to patients, providing reassurance and addressing any concerns they may have.
  • Position patients correctly to capture accurate diagnostic images while minimizing discomfort.
  • Maintain accurate scheduling and documentation of imaging procedures for medical records.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare professionals for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Regularly calibrate and maintain diagnostic imaging equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Monitor and review imaging results for quality assurance before submitting them to physicians.
  • Stay updated with advancements in radiographic technologies and techniques for continuous improvement.
  • Assist in patient management by recognizing and addressing emergency situations swiftly and effectively.
  • Protect patients and themselves from unnecessary radiation exposure through the proper use of shielding.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior radiologic technicians and new staff members.

Requirements

  • An associate's or bachelor's degree in radiologic technology or a related field.
  • Proven work experience as a radiographer or in a similar role in healthcare.
  • Valid certification and license
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operating complex radiographic and imaging equipment accurately.
  • Strong understanding of radiographic techniques, positioning, and safety protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients and medical staff.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to healthcare policies and regulations.
