Job Description

The role of a Quantity Surveyor is a vital position within the construction industry, responsible for the financial and contractual management of construction projects. A Quantity Surveyor ensures that building projects adhere to legal, quality, and cost specifications while maintaining strong client and team relationships. Their primary focus lies in optimizing project budgets, managing costs, and mitigating any financial risks. As part of a multidisciplinary team, Quantity Surveyors collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to deliver successful project outcomes from inception to completion. This challenging yet rewarding role requires a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of construction and financial processes.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates and budgets for construction projects.
  • Conduct detailed risk assessments and manage project financial risks effectively.
  • Negotiate contracts, fees, and agreements with contractors and suppliers.
  • Monitor and manage project costs to ensure adherence to budgets.
  • Conduct regular cost value reconciliations and oversee financial reporting.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to enhance project cost-efficiency.
  • Liaise with clients to refine and understand project specifications and requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers and construction teams for seamless project delivery.
  • Analyze project data to forecast future expenses and budget needs.
  • Manage variations and changes in project scope with financial impact analysis.
  • Assist in the resolution of contractual and commercial disputes on projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, construction, or a related field.
  • Professional qualification or accreditation with RICS or equivalent institution.
  • Minimum of three years experience in quantity surveying within construction.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and financial practices.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency with quantity surveying software and financial management systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and across diverse projects.
