Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor is a key member of any construction project, tasked with managing all costs related to building projects, from initial estimates through to the final acquisition of materials. They are responsible for ensuring that construction projects remain within budget, without compromising on quality. A Quantity Surveyor must carefully manage costs through a variety of initiatives and economic measures, consistently seeking cost-effective methods that yield the highest standards. Their role is pivotal in maintaining the financial and contractual interests of businesses, ensuring projects are financially viable and delivered with efficiency. Working closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients, a Quantity Surveyor bridges the gap between concept and a finished project that meets budgetary requirements.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assess cost estimates for construction projects and fiscal viability.
  • Provide advice on financial implications of a project before the onset of work.
  • Carry out cost analysis, creating detailed projections for resource allocations.
  • Ensure project completion within allocated timeline and budget constraints.
  • Liaise closely with project stakeholders to align financial objectives with deliverables.
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to secure favorable terms.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential financial challenges and solutions.
  • Maintain accurate financial records for auditing and reporting purposes.
  • Monitor project costs and provide updates to project management teams regularly.
  • Audit expenses to ensure compliance with contracted terms and detect variances.
  • Oversee project procurement strategies and implement cost-saving techniques.
  • Prepare documents for tender and manage subsequent contract negotiations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Quantity Surveyor in construction project settings.
  • Proficient knowledge of industry-related software for cost estimation and budgeting.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills for financial management tasks.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with clients and team members effectively.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Solid understanding of construction contracts, laws, and industry regulations.
