Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor is a professional who plays a crucial role in the construction and infrastructure sectors. They are responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects. This role involves the meticulous estimation, monitoring, and regulation of costs associated with a building project, ensuring value for money while meeting stringent quality and safety standards. A Quantity Surveyor evaluates project specifications to determine budgets and negotiate with suppliers and vendors. They ensure that the project does not exceed the estimated costs and assists in the resolution of contractual and commercial issues. A proficient Quantity Surveyor can save millions for their employer by keeping projects on time and within budget, while optimizing resource utilization.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare comprehensive project estimates to determine the anticipated budget accurately.
  • Conduct rigorous cost analyses to monitor project budgets and financial reports.
  • Negotiate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure fair prices and contracts.
  • Prepare tender and contract documents and evaluate bids for cost and business benefit.
  • Manage, control, and forecast the costs of various elements of construction projects.
  • Ensure that all financial targets are met in accordance with the estimates.
  • Conduct site visits, assessments, and projections for future work.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to align on project budgets, timelines, and specifications.
  • Monitor and manage construction processes transparently and with accountability.
  • Prepare detailed taking-off to determine quantities of materials needed accurately.
  • Maintain a database of project progress reports to track budget adherence.
  • Advise on procurement strategies that provide cost-effective solutions for projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Professional certification or membership, such as RICS or equivalent, is preferred.
  • Proven experience, minimum three years, in quantity surveying in construction or related field.
  • Exceptional analytical and numerical skills to handle complex data and forecasting.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines consistently.
  • Strong negotiation skills to obtain the best outcomes for cost and quality.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interface with stakeholders and team members.
