Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor (QS) is a vital member of the construction and civil engineering industry. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing all financial aspects of construction projects from inception to completion. Your role will involve forecasting costs, preparing budgets, tendering, and ensuring that the project remains within the allocated financial plans. Emphasis will be placed on maximizing project value while controlling cost and ensuring quality. This role requires a keen eye for detail, impeccable analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex information effectively to all stakeholders involved in a project. Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for construction projects efficiently.
  • Analyze project tenders and negotiate contracts with contractors and suppliers.
  • Monitor project costs and implement cost control measures throughout the project lifespan.
  • Provide strategic advice on procurement and management decisions to ensure project efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and quality standards for all project contracts and activities.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and contractors to gather project specifications and requirements.
  • Prepare periodic financial reports and valuations to track project progress and spending.
  • Participate actively in the resolution of disputes and claims arising from contracts.
  • Recommend corrective actions to address budget overruns and ensure financial control.
  • Evaluate risks associated with construction projects and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation and records in compliance with regulations.
  • Advise on contractual claims and ensure effective communication with all stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least three years of experience in quantity surveying or a similar role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills for handling contracts and tenders.
  • Proficiency in relevant software packages such as AutoCAD and MS Office Suite.
  • In-depth understanding of construction and civil engineering industry standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with professional bodies like RICS is preferred.
