Job Description

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a critical role in the construction and civil engineering sectors by managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects. You will be responsible for ensuring that projects are completed within budget while maintaining the highest standards of quality. Your role will involve cost estimating, financial analysis, contract negotiation, and compliance with regulations and standards. You are expected to work closely with architects, engineers, project managers, and clients to develop cost-efficient plans and schedules. With a keen eye for detail and a strong commitment to fiscal prudence, the Quantity Surveyor ensures project viability and consistency with client requirements and expectations.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates based on architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain accurate project budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Oversee contract tender process and assist in contractor selection.
  • Negotiate costs with builders and providers, ensuring competitive pricing.
  • Prepare detailed bills of quantities for complex projects and submit these to stakeholders.
  • Monitor project costs and expenses to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Collaborate with project management teams to develop comprehensive cost reports.
  • Conduct regular site visits for valuation of ongoing work and ensure project accuracy.
  • Manage risk assessment and reporting activities to maintain project standards.
  • Advise on contractual claims and manage project change control processes.
  • Verify and validate subcontractor claims before authorizing payments.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and codes of practice in construction projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional accreditation such as MRICS or its equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in quantity surveying or construction management.
  • Proficient in cost estimation software and relevant construction technology systems.
  • Excellent numerical skills and an eye for detail in financial analysis.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to effectively manage contract terms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client and team interactions.
