Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor plays a pivotal role in the construction and engineering industries by managing all financial aspects and contractual relationships of a project, ensuring that costs are managed effectively and projects remain within budget. The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for determining project requirements, preparing cost estimates, and conducting value engineering analyses. They work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure project success. The role requires strong analytical and negotiation skills, as well as attention to detail. Expertise in cost management and a comprehensive understanding of financial regulations are also essential for a Quantity Surveyor to perform their duties effectively and add value across the project lifecycle.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and provide cost estimates for construction and engineering projects efficiently.
  • Monitor and manage project budgets to ensure costs do not exceed forecasts.
  • Analyze project drawings and specifications to understand material requirements.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to determine project profitability and cost expectations.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineers to align project costs with budgets.
  • Negotiate with contractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Assess risk factors on projects and implement strategies to mitigate financial loss.
  • Administer contractual arrangements between clients and project stakeholders expertly.
  • Prepare detailed reports regarding project costs, budgets, and financial forecasts.
  • Remain informed about the latest construction trends and material pricing changes.
  • Ensure compliance with building regulations, quality standards, and safety measures.
  • Manage disputes related to contractual issues effectively and efficiently.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • At least three years of experience working as a Quantity Surveyor.
  • Strong analytical and numerical abilities are crucial for this role.
  • Deep understanding of construction processes, materials, and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills are required.
  • Proficiency in cost estimating and project management software applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Membership with a relevant professional body such as RICS is preferred.
