Job Description

A Quantity Estimator plays a crucial role in the construction and engineering industries by accurately calculating the required materials and costs associated with various projects. The primary responsibility of a Quantity Estimator is to ensure that estimates are realistic, accurate, and efficient so that project budgets are adhered to and resources are optimally utilized. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and an in-depth understanding of construction processes and materials. By collaborating with architects, engineers, and project managers, a Quantity Estimator ensures that all aspects of the project are covered, from initial conception through to completion, facilitating a smooth and successful building process.


Responsibilities

  • Analyze project specifications and prepare detailed material quantity estimates necessary for construction.
  • Coordinate with project managers to develop comprehensive costing strategies for projects.
  • Evaluate technical and financial data to create accurate project budget forecasts.
  • Liaise with suppliers and vendors to obtain competitive pricing for materials.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and government regulations during project planning.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust cost estimates as necessary to reflect changes.
  • Prepare detailed reports highlighting cost estimates, projections, and potential budget overruns.
  • Collaborate closely with architects and engineers to verify project requirements and adjust estimates accordingly.
  • Utilize specialized software tools for creating precise quantity take-offs and cost evaluations.
  • Negotiate material costs and contractor bids to achieve cost-effective project execution.
  • Ensure project estimating documents are kept organized and updated throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide technical support and advice on budgeting and estimating to internal teams and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years' experience as a Quantity Estimator in the construction industry.
  • Proficient in the use of estimating software such as Bluebeam or CostX.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail in estimates.
  • Excellent communication skills for liaising with suppliers and construction team members.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with precise attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of construction processes, materials, and building codes.
