Job Purpose

The Engineering Projects section specializes in evaluating, specifying, and negotiating new and used aircraft acquisitions. We oversee the entire process, from initial evaluation and assembly inspection to final delivery and acceptance.

We develop detailed specifications for aircraft and new system installations, including Passenger Entertainment and Connectivity Services (IFE) and Cabin Interiors. Our team ensures that all regulatory requirements, safety standards, functionality, and maintainability are met for each aircrafts entry into service.

As a Project Engineer I, you will provide technical expertise during the design and development of Emirates aircraft products in their respective fields i.e. Avionics, In Flight Entertainment (IFE), Cabin Interior, Airframe systems, Power Plant Engineering and Structure. To specify the Emirates aircraft definition to ensure that they are correctly configured prior to delivery and that all Buyer Furnished Equipment (BFE) and Seller Furnished Equipment (SFE) programmes are delivered as per the specification and on time.

In This Role, You Will

  • Evaluate information from various sources including Vendors, in house experience of in-service equipment and industry research/developments, in order to facilitate the selection of BFE (i.e. IFE , communication, navigation equipment, galleys and seats etc.) in future aircraft. Prepare recommendations for the introduction of new equipment selection for both future and in-service fleets, taking into account new trends within the industry.
  • Participate in Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or Airline working groups to steer aircraft Interior design and other equipment specifications to EK needs and benefits.
  • Participate in initial technical co-ordination meetings , preliminary design reviews, critical design reviews and First Article Inspections (FAI) of new equipment with the relevant suppliers/airframes, participate in source inspection. Follow-up design issues with suppliers and prepare action plan of open FAI issues.
  • Monitor the performance of aircraft and equipment for the in-service fleet by reviewing Technical Follow Ups (TFU) and Production Review Records (PRR), in order to ensure the timely introduction of committed changes by Manufacturers and Vendors for new programmes.
  • To evaluate requirements of stakeholders to introduce enhancements to equipment and services and prepare recommendations and/or cost analysis in liaison with other operational areas of EK in order to support the introduction of changes to aircraft specifications of future fleets. Closely liaise with other stakeholders to ensure that any approved requirements for on-board features and functionalities are met. Participate with management to negotiate technical and commercial aspects of specific changes.
  • Continuously review regulatory requirements that are being introduced in the industry for implementation in the specifications of future fleet.
  • Coordinate with all internal and external stakeholders to ensure the smooth introduction of new aircraft at `Transfer of Title and entry into operation. Review delivery updates during production process for any commitment letter items that needs to be addressed with the delivery manager for each newly introduced aircraft.
  • Conduct research and feasibility studies, provide recommendations to optimize aircraft operations and improve the passenger experience in Cabin for the introductions of the future EK fleet.
  • Assist the project team members in preparing budget requirements for new programs and suggesting recommendations. Assist Manager Aircraft Acceptance during final cabin acceptance and various inspections, design reviews. To also carry out post airplane delivery inspection before entry into Service.
  • Develop, assist and coach you project team members and ensure project delivery.

Qualification

To be considered for this role, you must meet the below requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering preferably Aeronautical and/or holder of an Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Licence.
  • 10+ years of experience in aircraft engineering. Preferably 5 years in aircraft delivery projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of the latest technical developments in Airframe, Power Plant, Avionics, IFE Equipment, Cabin equipment and installations and industry trends of future changes. Must have the ability to synthesise technical information, cost impacts and contractual commitments.
