Job Description

What We Can Achieve Together

This is an exciting decade to be part of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) as we galvanize momentum to address the dual crises of biodiversity loss and climate change worldwide. This urgency is particularly pronounced in TNC’s 2030 goals. The Nature Bonds Program combines debt refinancing, science, planning, and policy to help countries protect ecosystems and support communities. Piloted in the Seychelles in 2016, our approach—initially dubbed Blue Bonds for Ocean Conservation—combines debt refinancing with technical assistance and has proven highly effective. Recently expanded to include terrestrial and freshwater outcomes, what we now call our Nature Bonds Program has six projects in implementation, including marine-focused projects in Barbados (2022), Gabon (2023), and The Bahamas (2024), and the programs first-ever project focused on terrestrial and freshwater conservation in Ecuador (2024). Together, the six projects are expected to generate approximately USD $1 billion in conservation funding and support governments in reaching new protection commitments or improving the management of roughly 242 million hectares of ocean, land, lakes, and wetlands, as well as 18,000 km of rivers, demonstrating how quickly this approach is scaling around the world.

The Program Coordinator supports the preparation of materials for the Protect and TNC Leadership Teams, as well as planning, logistics, and administration of key internal and external partnership meetings. They also develop key topical expertise in issues that support cross-functional or cross-boundary strategy development and management, including large-scale protection of terrestrial, marine, and freshwater ecosystems. They work to build a dotted-line network of other program coordinators in the field through active collaboration, and they support the development and uptake of technology-based productivity and project management tools. They provide logistical, administrative, and technical support in the planning and execution of virtual and in-person events. They will assist in managing budgets and reporting, as well as work plans and tracking the program’s numbers and metrics, alongside the Program Associate, the Project Director, and the MEL Specialist. They will also be tasked with supporting the team’s Portfolio Lead, including calendaring, expense reports, arranging domestic and international travel, and providing general administrative assistance. Some key tasks may also involve managing miscellaneous projects for the program, as needed and aligned with the team’s goals and strategy.

The location for this position is flexible and includes any area where The Nature Conservancy has permission to work. No relocation, immigration, or sponsorship is available with this position. The majority of team members work within North and South American time zones, with other team members in Europe and Africa. The Program Coordinator position will sit within the Global Protect program, reporting to the Program Associate, Nature Bonds.
