Job Description

The Procurement Officer is a pivotal role within the supply chain management framework of an organization, responsible for overseeing and managing procurement operations and strategies. This position entails developing purchasing policies, finding cost-effective deals, and maintaining relationships with suppliers to ensure a robust supply of high-quality materials. The Procurement Officer ensures that procurement practices align with the company’s objectives and industry standards, contributing directly to cost efficiency and revenue generation. They work closely with various departments to understand the needs for goods and services, negotiate contracts, and oversee the end-to-end procurement process. A keen eye for detail, strong negotiation skills, and excellent interpersonal abilities are essential for success in this role.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective procurement strategies to meet organizational needs.
  • Conduct market research to identify suitable suppliers with competitive prices.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements to achieve cost-effective procurement objectives.
  • Maintain positive relationships with existing suppliers and source new potential partnerships.
  • Oversee the procurement process to ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Evaluate and analyze supplier performance for quality, delivery, and service excellence.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to comprehend purchasing needs and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and legal regulations in all procurement activities.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports on procurement activities and budgets.
  • Implement process improvements to optimize procurement operations and cost management.
  • Monitor market trends to anticipate potential changes in supply and prices.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior procurement staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a procurement officer or in a similar role is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement procedures and relevant legal regulations.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to build strong supplier relationships.
  • Outstanding analytical and strategic thinking capabilities for effective decision-making.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
