Job Description

A Process Safety Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring that industrial processes operate safely and efficiently. This professional is tasked with analyzing and mitigating risks associated with various processes, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations while optimizing performance and productivity. The ideal candidate must possess a strong background in chemical engineering, process safety management, and hazard analysis. Working across multiple sectors such as oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, or manufacturing, a Process Safety Engineer develops and implements strategies to minimize risks and prevent accidents or incidents. This includes collaborating with teams to improve process designs, manage changes, and conduct safety training sessions. A thorough understanding of relevant regulations and standards is necessary to spearhead a culture of safety within the organization.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement process safety management programs tailored to company requirements.
  • Conduct hazard identification and risk assessment studies regularly to evaluate process risks.
  • Collaborate with design teams to enhance process designs for improved safety and efficiency.
  • Lead incident investigation and root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards.
  • Provide training and mentorship to staff on process safety practices and protocols.
  • Evaluate operational changes through management of change (MOC) processes meticulously.
  • Review and maintain safety documentation and process safety information (PSI) consistently.
  • Develop and execute emergency response plans and procedures effectively for all scenarios.
  • Present findings and recommendations on process safety improvements to senior management.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings to drive process safety initiatives forward.
  • Monitor developments in industry regulations and advise on necessary adjustments for compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field required.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in process safety engineering or similar roles.
  • Strong knowledge of process safety management principles and practices essential.
  • Proficiency in hazard analysis techniques, including HAZOP, LOPA, and PHA.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance frameworks and industry standards critical.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to communicate complex safety concepts clearly.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams and manage multiple projects concurrently.
