AESG is seeking an accomplished Electrical Engineer with deep expertise in mission-critical facility design to join our growing Mission Critical department.
Reporting directly to the Head of Mission Critical, this senior role offers significant career progression opportunities and the chance to lead diverse data centre projects across the EMEA region, spanning full design delivery, technical advisory services, and contractor support during construction phases.

Qualification And Experience
10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering design, with significant focus on data centre and mission-critical facilities

Demonstrated expertise in data centre electrical systems, including power distribution architectures (N, N+1, 2N, 2N+1 configurations), medium voltage and low voltage distribution, UPS systems (static, rotary, modular), generator plants and fuel systems, automatic transfer switches, power monitoring systems, busway and busduct design, and distributed and block redundancy topologies for mission critical environments
Strong technical foundation in load calculations, short circuit analysis, arc flash analysis, protection coordination studies, voltage drop calculations, power quality analysis for mission-critical facilities, as well as earthing and lightning protection system design
Experience with high voltage substations and utility power infrastructure, including substation design, switchgear selection and layout, transformer sizing and specification, utility coordination, power purchase agreements, and grid connection requirements for small to large-scale data centre campuses
Proven track record delivering projects for major data centre owners, operators, or developers, with experience across multiple project delivery models, including design-build, design-bid-build, and advisory engagements
Significant experience with projects in the GCC and broader EMEA region, with an understanding of regional codes, standards, and stakeholder dynamics
Working knowledge of relevant electrical engineering standards, including IEEE, IEC, NEC/NFPA 70, BS standards, and Uptime Institute Tier topology requirements
Strong client relationship management skills with demonstrated ability to independently manage senior-level client interactions and build lasting partnerships
Business development experience, including proposal leadership, technical presentations, scope definition, and fee negotiation
Demonstrated political acumen and ability to navigate complex organizational environments, manage competing stakeholder interests, and operate effectively in matrix structures
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) status strongly preferred
General Expectations
Lead electrical systems design for data centre and mission critical projects across various delivery models—from full design responsibility to technical advisory services and construction phase support—including power distribution systems (HV, MV, LV), UPS configurations, generator plants, emergency power systems, lighting, grounding, and lightning protection
Act as a senior client-facing technical lead, managing relationships with data center owners, operators, developers, and construction contractors throughout project lifecycles
Provide technical advisory services to clients during procurement, design review, and construction phases, including contractor submittal reviews, RFI resolution, and technical assurance for project delivery
Lead multidisciplinary coordination efforts, ensuring seamless integration between electrical, mechanical, architectural, structural, and other design disciplines
Supervise, mentor, and develop engineering teams, providing technical guidance and fostering professional growth among junior and mid-level engineers
Support business development initiatives, including proposal preparation, technical presentations, fee negotiations, and strategic client engagement
Represent the Mission Critical department in senior-level client meetings, industry forums, and strategic planning discussions
Responsibilities
Expertise in electrical modelling and analysis software (ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, CDEGS, or similar)
Proficiency in industry-standard design software (Navisworks, AutoCAD, single-line diagram tools)
Knowledge of sustainability frameworks and certifications (LEED, BREEAM, ESTIDAMA) as they apply to data centres
Experience with and understanding of the selection of electrical systems in mission-critical facilities
Familiarity with industry design standards and specifications (Uptime Institute Tier Standards, TIA-942, ISO standards for data centres)
Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer (ATD) certification preferred
Experience with energy efficiency strategies, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and renewable energy integration in data centres
Experience with utility (DEWA, TAQA, SEC) coordination, power infrastructure planning, and large load interconnection processes with regional utilities
Knowledge of data centre monitoring and control systems (DCIM, EPMS, BMS integration)
Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project economics, risk management, and value engineering
Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
