Job Description

A Pharmacy Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting pharmacists and other healthcare professionals by ensuring the smooth operation of the pharmacy. They assist in the filling and dispensing of prescriptions, manage inventory, and provide customer service to patients and clients. In a typical day, a Pharmacy Assistant might answer phone calls, resolve customer inquiries, and handle clerical tasks such as maintaining patient records or processing insurance claims. This position requires a keen attention to detail, a good understanding of the pharmaceutical environment, and a commitment to helping patients with their healthcare needs. Pharmacy Assistants are vital in ensuring that customers receive the correct medications efficiently and safely.


Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing prescription medications accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain and organize pharmaceutical products and monitor inventory levels proactively.
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing queries and providing information on medications.
  • Ensure confidentiality and accuracy in handling patient records and personal information.
  • Process payments, insurance claims, and verify patient information as needed.
  • Operate cash registers, handle transactions, and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Receive, unpack, and store medication deliveries in accordance with storage guidelines.
  • Assist in managing and rotating stock to ensure freshness and quality of medications.
  • Help in maintaining a clean and organized workspace for optimal efficiency.
  • Label and restock shelves, ensuring all inventory is accurately placed and visible.
  • Support pharmacists in the preparation of syringe deliveries in line with regulations.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure proper medication usage and understanding.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certifications are a plus.
  • Previous experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy environment is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills are essential.
  • Good communication skills to interact effectively with customers and staff.
  • Basic math skills for handling cash transactions and inventory management.
  • Ability to handle sensitive tasks with a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and pharmacology is highly advantageous.
