We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Junior Consultant – Pediatric Surgeon to join our Government Healthcare Facility.

The successful candidate will provide specialized surgical care to infants, children, and adolescents with congenital, developmental, and acquired surgical conditions. The role involves evaluating patients, participating in surgical procedures, providing perioperative and postoperative care, and working closely with senior consultants and multidisciplinary pediatric teams.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound clinical judgment, strong surgical skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to delivering safe, evidence-based, and family-centered pediatric surgical care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage pediatric patients requiring surgical intervention.
  • Perform surgical procedures appropriate to the physicians training, experience, and approved scope of practice.
  • Assist senior consultants with complex pediatric surgical procedures.
  • Participate in preoperative assessment, surgical planning, operative procedures, and postoperative management.
  • Manage common and complex pediatric surgical conditions, including congenital anomalies, gastrointestinal disorders, abdominal conditions, and pediatric surgical emergencies.
  • Provide emergency assessment and management of pediatric surgical cases.
  • Monitor postoperative patients and identify and manage potential complications.
  • Review and interpret relevant laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic investigations.
  • Provide appropriate counseling and education to children and their parents/guardians regarding diagnosis, treatment options, procedures, risks, and expected outcomes.
  • Collaborate with pediatricians, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, radiologists, nurses, and other multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in pediatric surgical on-call and emergency services as required.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records and operative documentation.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical audits, quality improvement programs, and research activities.
  • Support the education and supervision of residents, interns, and junior clinical staff where appropriate.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, patient safety standards, infection-control requirements, and applicable healthcare regulations.
  • MD, MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent Medical Degree from a recognized and accredited institution.
  • Completion of an accredited residency/specialist training program in Pediatric Surgery.
  • Recognized postgraduate specialist qualification in Pediatric Surgery.
  • American Board Certification in Pediatric Surgery or an equivalent internationally recognized specialist qualification is highly preferred.
  • UK CCT doctors preferred.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of post-specialization clinical experience in Pediatric Surgery, subject to applicable licensing and credentialing requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in the surgical management of infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Experience in pediatric surgical emergencies and perioperative care.
  • Strong knowledge of pediatric surgical principles, anatomy, physiology, and evidence-based treatment.
  • Current BLS and PALS certification; additional pediatric life-support training is an advantage.
