Job Description

A Patient Coordinator serves as a vital link between patients and healthcare providers, ensuring smooth communication and efficient management of patient-related tasks. This role is essential in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and private medical practices. The Patient Coordinator is responsible for providing excellent customer service, obtaining and managing patient information, and acting as the patient's advocate throughout their healthcare experience. Their duties often involve scheduling appointments, coordinating with medical staff, handling insurance verifications, and ensuring that patient inquiries and concerns are addressed promptly. This position requires strong organizational skills, a compassionate demeanor, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.


Responsibilities

  • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments, ensuring optimal office flow and minimal wait times.
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and manage pre-authorization processes for medical procedures.
  • Gather, document, and update patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Serve as a point of contact for patients, answering questions and facilitating communication with medical providers.
  • Assist patients in understanding their treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care instructions.
  • Handle patient complaints and grievances with empathy, working towards satisfactory resolutions.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists and manage the logistics of obtaining outside medical consultations.
  • Track patient progress and follow up on outstanding appointments, tests, or medical results.
  • Assist the medical team with administrative tasks to maintain productivity and efficiency within the practice.
  • Organize and maintain patient records and correspondence, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulations.
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient service initiatives to enhance overall patient satisfaction.
  • Educate patients on healthcare resources, services available, and preventive health practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in healthcare is a plus.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred, ideally in a patient-facing role.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and staff.
  • Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and healthcare management software.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail in managing patient information.
  • Ability to handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality and ethical consideration.
  • Customer service skills with a compassionate approach towards patient care and support.
