Job Description

An orthodontist is a dental specialist who is expert in diagnosing, preventing, and correcting misaligned teeth and jaws. Their primary role involves designing and applying corrective braces, appliances, and other devices to align teeth and jaws and to promote proper function of teeth and jaws. An orthodontist works closely with clients to determine the best course of treatment, evaluating occlusion, teeth eruption patterns, and analyzing dental and skeletal structures. The position not only demands extensive dental knowledge but also requires a compassionate approach to patient care, as orthodontists often treat individuals across various age groups, ensuring treatments are effective and patient-friendly. Building continuous patient rapport and maintaining a state-of-the-art clinic environment are also crucial elements of an orthodontist’s role. Additionally, orthodontists stay updated on the latest developments in their field to offer the most effective treatments and maintain high patient care standards.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed assessments to diagnose dental and jaw misalignments in patients.
  • Create personalized treatment plans to address individual orthodontic concerns effectively.
  • Design and fit dental appliances such as braces, retainers, and expanders.
  • Regularly monitor patients’ progress and adjust treatments as necessary.
  • Provide education and guidance to patients on orthodontic health and appliance care.
  • Collaborate with other dental professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Maintain patient records meticulously and update them with each new visit.
  • Stay informed on advancements in orthodontic technology and methodologies.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and ensure the clinical environment is clean and safe.
  • Communicate complex dental information to patients in a clear, understandable manner.
  • Develop and maintain great relations with patients to build rapport and trust.
  • Participate in continuing education to maintain certifications and licensure.

Requirements

  • DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry) degree.
  • Completion of a postdoctoral orthodontic residency program accredited by the ADA.
  • Orthodontic board certification or eligibility for certification is preferred.
  • Current and valid license.
  • Knowledge of modern orthodontic methods, tools, and techniques is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients and staff.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and learning.
