About The Role
The core function of the Order Taker at Bab Al Shams Desert Resort is to ensure accurate and efficient order taking for in-room dining, restaurant, and banquet services. This includes providing exceptional customer service, accurately recording guest orders, and coordinating with the kitchen and service teams.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
Order Taking: Receive guest orders for In-Room Dining, restaurant, and banquet services ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
Menu Knowledge: Possess a comprehensive understanding of the food and beverage offerings including In-Room Dining menus, restaurant menus, and banquet menus.
Guest Interaction: Interact with guests in a professional and courteous manner, taking orders, addressing special requests, and providing menu recommendations.
Order Coordination: Coordinate with the kitchen and service teams to ensure timely preparation and delivery of guest orders.
Order Accuracy: Ensure the accuracy of guest orders, noting any dietary restrictions, allergies, or special requests and communicating them to the appropriate departments.
Upselling and Promotions: Promote menu items, special offers, and upsell opportunities to guests maximizing revenue and enhancing the guest experience.
Order Follow-Up: Follow up with guests to ensure satisfaction with their orders and address any concerns or additional requests.
Order Processing: Enter guest orders accurately into the restaurant or in-room dining point-of-sale system ensuring proper billing and inventory management.
The Order Taker may be required to assist in other food and beverage outlets or departments within the hotel as needed. This may include providing support during peak hours, assisting with room service delivery, or participating in special events.
Assists in the implementation of the Hotel’s Code of Discipline.
Attends scheduled training courses and participates in company-initiated employee activities.
Ensures that all staff is aware of Lost and Found procedures.
Possesses full knowledge of emergency procedures, and ensures all staff is always aware of emergency procedures.
Ensures proper care and maintenance of equipment in assignment.
Adheres to specified hygiene and personal appearance standards of the hotel.
Is fully aware of and complies with the Hotel’s environmental policy and established rules and guidelines.
Adheres to set procedures for attendance and timekeeping.
Performs such other functions as may be delegated by management from time to time.
Experience & Educational Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Fluency in written and spoken English.
Basic computer skills and familiarity with standard office software.
Certification in Food and Beverage Service or Hospitality Management would be an advantage.
Valid certification in responsible alcohol service, such as TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) or equivalent.
Previous experience in a customer service role, preferably in the hospitality industry.
Experience as an order taker or in a similar role, preferably in a hotel or restaurant setting, is advantageous.
Familiarity with order taking systems and point-of-sale software is beneficial
Knowledge of food and beverage offerings, including menus, ingredients, and preparation methods.
Familiarity with order taking processes and point-of-sale systems used in the hotel or restaurant.
Understanding of proper order processing and billing procedures.
Ability to handle guest inquiries, requests, and complaints with professionalism and efficiency.
Basic knowledge of food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special requests to provide appropriate recommendations and accommodations.
Time management skills to prioritize and manage multiple guest orders simultaneously.
Basic knowledge of inventory management to assist with stock monitoring and replenishment.
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment, communicating with other departments as needed.
