Job Description

As an Optical Technician, you will play a vital role in the optical department, ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of equipment as well as providing support to optometrists. Your expertise will be leveraged to assist in the production, repair, and maintenance of optical lenses and eyewear, as well as in performing diagnostic tests and procedures. You should possess a keen eye for detail, exemplary hand-eye coordination, and the ability to work closely with both team members and customers. A day in the life of an Optical Technician involves working in a fast-paced environment with a focus on delivering precise and quality eyewear solutions tailored to customer needs. Your knowledge of optical systems, tools, and technologies will contribute significantly to the overall customer experience and satisfaction.


Responsibilities

  • Handle the grinding, cutting, and edging of lenses to fit frames.
  • Assist optometrists in conducting eye examinations and diagnostic tests.
  • Repair, adjust, and fit eyewear to meet customer specifications.
  • Ensure precision and quality control of all optical products manufactured.
  • Operate and maintain ophthalmic diagnostic equipment in the lab.
  • Provide expert troubleshooting and repair services for optical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer prescriptions and eyewear orders.
  • Educate customers on the care and use of their eyewear products.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety and sanitation guidelines in the lab.
  • Keep up-to-date with optical manufacturing standards and techniques.
  • Collaborate with optometrists and optical sales staff to enhance services.
  • Assist in inventory management and ordering of optical supplies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certification in optical technology preferred.
  • Proven experience as an Optical Technician or similar role is required.
  • Strong understanding of optical science and lens manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination are essential.
  • Proficiency in operating various optical equipment and tools is necessary.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and precision in craftsmanship.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and order tracking.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair sophisticated optical machinery effectively.
