Job Description

An Optical Technician plays a crucial role in the eye care industry, responsible for creating, repairing, and maintaining optical devices and instruments. The technician fabricates eyewear according to prescriptions, performs quality checks, and handles customer inquiries regarding optical products. Responsibilities

  • Perform quality checks to ensure all optical products meet industry standards.
  • Maintain and calibrate optical equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Assist customers in selecting appropriate frames and lenses for their needs.
  • Provide education and training to customers on proper eyewear care.
  • Document and update patient medical records and optical prescriptions efficiently.
  • Stay informed about new technologies and advancements in optical products.
  • Manage inventory of optical supplies and order new stock as needed.
  • Ensure the optical laboratory complies with health and safety regulations.
  • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments and follow-up consultations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education preferred.
  • Certification from an accredited optical technician program is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of optical instruments and their technical specifications.
  • Proficient in using tools and machinery for optical fabrication and repair.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail are essential.
  • Good communication skills to interact effectively with patients and optometrists.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently under minimal supervision.
