Job Description

An Optical Technician plays a crucial role in the eye-care industry by ensuring the precise fulfillment of eyewear prescriptions and maintenance of optical equipment. The Optical Technician 19N25 is expected to collaborate with ophthalmologists and optometrists to deliver an exceptional experience for clients and patients. This position requires technical skills, attention to detail, and excellent customer service abilities. The Optical Technician will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks, including the maintenance and calibration of optical equipment, conducting eye tests, assisting in eyewear fittings, and processing lenses. A successful candidate must keep up-to-date with the latest technology and methods in the optical field, exhibit strong problem-solving skills, and demonstrate the ability to work individually and as part of a team. Dedicated, precise, and eager to assist clients with their optical needs, the Optical Technician will be an essential link between eye-care professionals and the patients they serve.


Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain optical diagnostic equipment with precision and care.
  • Assist optometrists in conducting eye tests and patient examinations.
  • Measure and record patient eye and lens specifications accurately.
  • Fit prescription lenses to eyeglass frames with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Calibrate and maintain optical lenses and other equipment regularly.
  • Perform repairs and adjustments on eyeglasses to ensure optimal fit and function.
  • Educate patients on eyewear care and maintenance for long-lasting use.
  • Process incoming orders and verify them against prescriptions provided.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations within the optical workshop.
  • Inform patients on various lens types and frame options available.
  • Maintain clean and organized workstation for efficient workflow.
  • Keep up with advancements in optical technology and adjust techniques as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent educational qualifications required.
  • Certification as an Optical Technician or similar preferred but not mandatory.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience working in an optical lab or clinic.
  • Basic understanding of optical sciences and related technical knowledge.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and fine motor skills for detailed work.
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with patients and team.
  • Ability to operate diagnostic equipment and basic computer programs.
  • Capacity to multi-task and handle a fast-paced work environment efficiently.
