Overview

This is an off-cycle internship opportunity within the Oil & Gas (O&G) advisory group of a global consulting firm, based in Dubai. The team covers transactions across the Middle East and Asia-Pacific region, and given the APAC market focus, the right candidate may also have the longer-term opportunity to be based in Hong Kong.

The O&G group is a dedicated, cross-product industry vertical comprising financial and technical professionals who focus on large, complex transactions across upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors, as well as molecule-related alternative energies. The team operates globally, with bankers across Dubai, Hong Kong, Houston, Dallas, New York, and London, and regularly executes cross-border mandates.

This is a six-month internship and the firm is looking for candidates who are immediately available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support live deal execution across mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, capital raisings, and other corporate finance advisory mandates in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific region.
  • Research and analyse financial statements, industry-specific developments, general economic conditions, and the investment attributes of publicly traded and private companies.
  • Assist in the analysis of acquisitions, divestitures, and financing structures, including debt, equity, and hybrid securities.
  • Develop and contribute to financial models and valuation analyses.
  • Work directly alongside senior professionals on client-facing engagements.
  • Gain exposure to a broad range of client industries and investment banking services within an entrepreneurial, collaborative environment.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong academic background.
  • A minimum of three to six months of prior internship experience in investment banking; M&A or corporate finance experience is preferred.
  • Solid accounting and finance knowledge, including a sound understanding of financial statement analysis.
  • Some exposure to financial modelling.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong financial and computer skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin is advantageous.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work cooperatively across all levels of staff in a fast-paced, demanding environment.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Immediate exposure to live transactions with real responsibility from day one.
  • Direct interaction with senior-level professionals throughout the internship.
  • Coverage of two high-activity regions — the Middle East and Asia-Pacific — within a globally connected team.
  • Potential longer-term opportunity to be based in Hong Kong for candidates with an interest in APAC markets.
  • A collegial, entrepreneurial culture that rewards initiative and performance.

Application Process

To apply, please submit your CV to pyang@hl.com. Candidates must be immediately available for a six-month engagement.
