Job Description

A Network Administrator is crucial in ensuring that an organization's IT infrastructure runs seamlessly and securely. The person in this role is responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and managing software, hardware, and networks. To execute this effectively, a Network Administrator typically works with various departments to ensure that network systems align with the needs of the organization and provide high availability and superior performance for all users. With the increasing prevalence of cyber threats, the Network Administrator is also pivotal in deploying security measures that safeguard company data. This role requires a detailed-oriented individual who can manage multiple tasks simultaneously and has a solid technical background in network administration and management.


Responsibilities

  • Monitor the performance of local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs).
  • Install, configure, and support an organization’s network systems and infrastructure.
  • Maintain security solutions, including firewalls, anti-virus software, and other security systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software problems related to network systems.
  • Collaborate with IT team members to document network challenges and improve efficiency.
  • Provide technical support and training to staff to utilize network resources effectively.
  • Plan and implement network changes and upgrades to optimize performance.
  • Configure and maintain network services such as DHCP, DNS, and IPAM systems.
  • Evaluate network infrastructure to implement effective and innovative solutions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for network settings, configurations, and revisions.
  • Coordinate with vendors for timely maintenance and support of network hardware.
  • Develop disaster recovery plans to ensure the organization’s data can be restored smoothly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Network Administrator or relevant role, for at least two years.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Familarity with network security systems, intrusion detection, and prevention protocols.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to handle stress and strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Certification in network technologies such as Cisco’s CCNA or similar will be an advantage.
