Job Description

We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Junior Consultant – Neonatologist to join our private healthcare facility in the UAE.

The successful candidate will provide specialized medical care to newborns, including premature and critically ill neonates. The role involves assessment, stabilization, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of neonates in the NICU, delivery room, and newborn care settings.

The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with neonatologists, pediatricians, obstetricians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other multidisciplinary professionals to provide safe, evidence-based, and family-centered neonatal care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive medical care to newborns, including premature, low-birth-weight, and critically ill neonates.
  • Assess and manage neonates in the NICU, delivery room, nursery, and emergency settings.
  • Manage neonatal conditions including respiratory distress, sepsis, jaundice, prematurity-related complications, congenital abnormalities, and other neonatal emergencies.
  • Participate in neonatal resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill newborns.
  • Manage respiratory support, including non-invasive ventilation and mechanical ventilation within the approved scope of practice.
  • Monitor and manage neonatal nutrition, fluid and electrolyte balance, and growth.
  • Perform neonatal procedures appropriate to training, experience, and credentialing.
  • Interpret laboratory investigations, blood gases, imaging, and other neonatal diagnostic studies.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians and pediatric specialists regarding high-risk pregnancies and deliveries.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary NICU rounds and clinical case discussions.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and families regarding diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and care plans.
  • Provide appropriate follow-up and discharge planning for neonatal patients.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical documentation.
  • Participate in NICU on-call duties and emergency services as required.
  • Support infection prevention, patient safety, quality improvement, and clinical governance initiatives.
  • Participate in teaching, clinical audits, research, and continuing medical education.
  • Support and supervise residents, junior physicians, and clinical staff where appropriate.
  • MD, MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent Medical Degree from a recognized and accredited institution.
  • Completion of an accredited Pediatrics residency/specialist training program.
  • Completion of recognized Neonatology fellowship/subspecialty training.
  • Recognized postgraduate qualification in Neonatology or equivalent.
  • American Board Certification in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine or equivalent internationally recognized board certification is highly preferred.
  • AMERICAN BOARD doctors preferred.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of post-specialization/subspecialty clinical experience in Neonatology, subject to applicable licensing and credentialing requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing premature, critically ill, and high-risk newborns.
  • Experience in neonatal resuscitation and stabilization.
  • Strong experience with mechanical ventilation and other neonatal respiratory support.
  • Current BLS and NRP certification; PALS is an advantage.
  • Strong clinical judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly with families.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary NICU team.
  • Commitment to patient safety, ethical practice, and evidence-based neonatal care.
  • Fluency in English; Arabic language skills are an advantage.
  • Candidates must meet all applicable UAE licensing, credentialing, and professional classification requirements.
