JOB DESCRIPTION

The Pipeline NDT Lead is responsible to ensure seamless integration of pipeline NDT technique throughout the project lifecycle and ensures the integrity and reliability of welded joints. The position focusses on development of NDT technique, qualification, and implementation of NDT systems to ensure high productivity and consistent quality as per project requirements during construction and installation of offshore/onshore pipelines.

The incumbent will oversee development of NDT technique, technical clarifications and liaises with Engineering Criticality Assessment (ECA) team to provide inputs for developing a practical fit for purpose acceptance criteria and translating requirements into executable plans and deliverables required by the project.The role ensures coordinating multidisciplinary teams and interface with key stakeholders such as Engineering, Procurement, Marine, Quality,NDT Subcontractor where applicable, Client etc to achieve project objectives. The Lead shall ensure compliance with international standards, project specifications, optimizes resources, and mitigates risks to deliver safe, high-quality pipelines on schedule and within budget.

The NDT lead is accountable for the project execution starting from Engineering, Budget, Qualification, Equipment readiness, Operation preparation, start-up, Quality, Production KPI and Lesson learned.

Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement detailed Advanced NDT procedures including calibration block required by contracts for pipeline welding activities during project planning and execution phases.
  • Liaise with Operations Manager (Fabrication/Marine), PPG Discipline Managers, Project team, Customers, Operations /Field Engineers, QC/NDT Engineers, Certifying Authority, NDT Subcontractors, Other Technical Agencies (for e.g. TWI, DNVGL).
  • Participate during Bidding process to review and summarize customer specifications, identify bid qualifications and clarifications, NDT requirements during welder and procedure qualification, NDT consumables requirements and provide NDT inputs to develop pipeline technological cycle times/lay rates. Identify any special required for execution and duly account for them in bid package
  • Responsible for Project set up, planning, and readiness by developing full scope of NDT procedures required including calibration block during welding procedure, welder qualification and construction/installation of pipelines.
  • Responsible for seeking the review and approval of all Project Pipeline NDT Procedure through direct and indirect communications with the customer and Certifying Authority.
  • Review the as award NDT budget and responsible to maintain the costs within the budget, schedule and productivity during execution.
  • Responsible to ensure adequate staffing level within his team as per project schedule and POB requirements during offshore installation phase.
  • Responsible to coordinate with stakeholders within the organization, subcontractors and testing laboratories regarding testing of procedure and welder qualification coupons.
  • Responsible to support procurement activities for pipeline related components related to NDT by participating in review of Material requisition, Technical bid evaluation, supplier documents and technical queries.
  • Responsible for providing RFQ and technical selection of NDT subcontractors where applicable as per project requirements. Coordinate and follow up with SCM and project team to monitor progress of subcontract award.
  • Estimate NDT consumable requirements during welding procedure, welder and construction/installation. Conduct periodic review of NDT Consumables to optimize costs.
  • Responsible to provide inputs for PPG project kick-off meetings, readiness reviews including lessons learned during project set up, start of Welding procedure and welder qualification, pipeline installation and ensure close out of project.
  • Provide inputs to welding lead during welding procedure development based on the NDT results and welder qualification to improve the welding quality and good workmanship practices for an efficient transition to construction/installation.
  • Responsible to resolve technical issues and quality related problems, through investigating cause of failures and prescribing fit for purpose approach.
  • Supervise and monitor NDT activities during construction/ installation of pipeline ensuring adherence to project specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with MDR HSE requirements and quality assurance procedures throughout all stages of pipeline operations.
  • Responsible for readiness of NDT stations during Welding procedure qualification, construction and installation by ensuring resolving start-up issues, availability of NDT techs, calibrated NDT equipments, monitor actual NDT cycle time against planned and provide technical support during installation phase. Evaluate the performance of NDT subcontractors onboard with respect to productivity and interpretation of results.
  • Prepare progress reports, maintain documentation, and support audits for project quality and safety compliance.
  • Perform NDT surveillance audit & regular monitoring of inspection activities, cross check job performed by Operators / Technicians in welding technology centre, onshore and offshore pipelay vessels.
  • Foster for innovation in the industry and work with all departments to execute R&D projects/goals identified for pipelines under PPG
  • Assess employee performance and provide leadership, training and mentoring to the team.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Education

  • High School Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, NDT Technology, or related field.
  • Certification in MUT, MPI, LPT and AUT/PAUT (e.g., ISO 9712, PCN, CSWIP, ASNT Level III preferred).
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in NDT/AUT operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role
  • Experienced in the use of the computer and Microsoft programs applicable, preparation software, i.e., ES Beam tool, AUT software platforms (e.g., TomoScan, UltraVision, FocusScan, PipeWizard).
  • Be proficient in assessing examination results accurately, sentencing welds, and reporting same, according to the relevant code / spec acceptance criteria.
  • Preferred with valid BOSIET, HUET, and Offshore Medical Certificate and Experience working on pipelay vessels, lay barges, or similar offshore assets
