  • Plan and deliver engaging, creative and age-appropriate music lessons for stduents across the primary phase.
  • Develop students understanding of musical concepts including rhythm, melody, harmony, dynamics, notation and musical vocabulary.
  • Provide opportunities for pupils to sing, perform, compose, improvise and listen to a wide range of musical styles and traditions.
  • Develop students confidence in performing both individually and as part of an ensemble.
  • Differentiate learning to meet the needs, abilities and interests of all students, including those with SEND and EAL.
  • Use a variety of instruments, technology and practical activities to enhance learning.
  • Establish a positive, inclusive and well-managed learning environment.
  • Assess students musical knowledge, skills and progress regularly.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil achievement and use assessment information to inform future planning.
  • Provide constructive feedback that supports students musical development.
  • Identify students who demonstrate particular musical strengths and provide opportunities for further development.
  • Organise and contribute to school concerts, assemblies, celebrations and musical performances.
  • Lead or support choirs, ensembles, bands and other extracurricular music activities.
  • Encourage students to participate in musical events and competitions where appropriate.
  • Support school productions and performances through musical direction, accompaniment or other relevant expertise.
  • Promote a vibrant musical culture across the school.
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers and other specialist teachers to support cross-curricular learning.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and the continuous improvement of music provision.
  • Share expertise and good practice with colleagues.
  • Follow GEMS policies at all times

Skills Description

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A recognised teaching qualification.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Music, Music Education or a related field.
  • Experience teaching music to primary-aged pupils.
  • Strong knowledge of primary music education and effective teaching practices.
  • Ability to play and/or teach one or more musical instruments confidently.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Experience working within a British or international curriculum.
  • Experience leading choirs, ensembles, bands or school productions.
  • Ability to teach instrumental lessons.
  • Experience using music technology and digital learning resources.
  • Experience supporting students with SEND and diverse learning needs.
