Job Description

A Merchandiser plays a crucial role in the retail and consumer products industry, ensuring that products appear in the right store, at the right time, and in the right quantities. This role involves analyzing consumer behavior, forecasting sales trends, and strategizing with cross-functional teams to optimize product placement and availability. Merchandisers work closely with suppliers, manufacturers, and store managers to coordinate the display and stock of products. They also analyze market trends to make informed decisions about product promotions and markdown initiatives. A successful Merchandiser is analytical, enjoys working with a variety of stakeholders, and is adept at problem-solving. This dynamic position requires creativity and strategy to meet company sales goals and enhance the customer shopping experience.


Responsibilities

  • Plan and develop merchandising strategies that balance customers’ expectations and company’s objectives.
  • Collaborate with buyers, suppliers, distributors, and analysts to negotiate prices and terms.
  • Analyze sales figures, customer reactions, and market trends to anticipate product needs.
  • Monitor stock movement and consider markdowns, promotions, price changes, stock clearance, and product display.
  • Identify and track KPIs to ensure goals are achieved and report on the effectiveness of merchandising campaigns.
  • Prepare and manage budgets, including budgeting sales, stock, and markdown plans.
  • Visit local retail and department stores to understand merchandising strategies in action.
  • Create appealing visual displays that promote sales and escalate velocity of slow-moving items.
  • Coordinate with store staff to ensure a consistent level of product presentation is maintained.
  • Ensure products are displayed according to company guidelines and visual merchandising principles.
  • Regularly review competitors and industry trends to maintain competitive advantage in the market.
  • Optimize retail space by efficiently planning the layout and presentation of products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Merchandiser or in a similar role within the retail industry.
  • Proficient in MS Office; especially with Excel for data analysis and scheduling.
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills are essential for managing various projects.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret sales data and make effective business decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and an eye for detail to develop innovative merchandising solutions.
