Job Description

The MEP Estimator plays a crucial role in the construction and engineering industries by providing detailed and accurate estimates for projects involving mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This position necessitates a deep understanding of the various components and systems within a building and the ability to analyze design documents to forecast costs accurately. The MEP Estimator collaborates closely with design teams, construction managers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure that competitive yet realistic project bids are prepared. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and expertise in industry-standard estimation software tools are essential for success in this role. By efficiently predicting costs and identifying potential discrepancies, the MEP Estimator contributes significantly to the financial success of construction projects.


Responsibilities

  • Analyze project plans and specifications to prepare detailed cost estimates for MEP systems.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and contractors to gather relevant project information.
  • Evaluate bids from potential suppliers and subcontractors to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive project documentation to support cost analyses and proposals.
  • Utilize industry-standard estimation software to generate accurate cost forecasts.
  • Review and verify MEP system designs to ensure compliance with industry codes and standards.
  • Identify and assess potential risks and value engineering opportunities for MEP systems.
  • Provide project managers and stakeholders with regular updates on estimate progress and budget considerations.
  • Collaborate with project teams to support bid package preparation and submission processes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on industry trends and cost fluctuations for MEP services and materials.
  • Produce detailed reports and presentations for project stakeholders regarding cost evaluations.
  • Participate in post-project evaluations to enhance accuracy of future MEP estimates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in MEP estimating or a similar role.
  • Proficiency with estimation software such as Bluebeam or Trimble MEP necessary.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and components.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail for effective cost analysis.
  • Familiarity with local building codes and industry standards is essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for team collaboration and stakeholder interaction.
