Medical Transcriptionist

Job Description

A Medical Transcriptionist is responsible for transcribing medical dictations from healthcare professionals into written documents. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, excellent typing skills, and attention to detail. The transcribed documents are used for patient records, insurance claims, and medical research.

Key Responsibilities

• Transcribe medical audio recordings accurately and efficiently.
• Ensure all transcriptions are error-free and comply with privacy regulations.
• Translate medical abbreviations and jargon into full-length written form.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to strict data security protocols.
• Review and edit transcriptions for grammar, spelling, and clarity.
• Communicate with healthcare professionals to clarify dictations if needed.
• Prioritize and organize workload to meet tight deadlines.
• Stay updated on medical terminology and industry developments.
• Utilize transcription software and equipment effectively.
• Collaborate with medical staff to improve documentation processes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a medical transcription training program preferred.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
• Excellent typing speed and accuracy, typically 60 words per minute.
• Familiarity with transcription software and electronic health records.
