Job Description

As a Medical Transcriptionist, you play a crucial role in the healthcare sector by transforming doctors' dictated recordings into written medical records. Your keen attention to detail and deep understanding of medical terminology ensure the accuracy and clarity of patient records, supporting both doctors and patients in the medical process. You will be required to work independently and sometimes under pressure, as timely transcription is often necessary for ongoing medical care. Your work ensures that medical histories, diagnoses, treatment plans, and other crucial details are correctly documented, aiding in the smooth operation of healthcare services and effective patient management.


Responsibilities

  • Accurately transcribe voice recordings from physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Edit transcriptions for grammar, format, and any discrepancies found during transcription.
  • Understand medical terminology to interpret abbreviations and jargon correctly.
  • Ensure up-to-date record management by transcribing and filing reports promptly.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all patient records and sensitive information.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of transcribed reports by comparing with original recordings.
  • Adhere to legal and ethical codes regarding patient confidentiality and data protection.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to clarify details on transcribed documents.
  • Keep abreast of new medical terms, procedures, and industry developments.
  • Operate and troubleshoot dictation equipment and transcription software efficiently.
  • Organize and prioritize workload to ensure urgent transcripts are completed on time.
  • Participate in ongoing training and skill development in medical transcription practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; medical transcription certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and healthcare documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent listening and typing skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision under tight deadlines.
  • Experience with word processing and specialized transcription software is a plus.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities to manage transcription tasks.
  • Strong understanding of grammar, punctuation, and language usage.
