Job Description

A Medical Laboratory Technician plays a vital role in the healthcare system by conducting laboratory tests essential for the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. The position requires a meticulous professional who can work independently to provide accurate results which are crucial for effective patient care. Medical Laboratory Technicians are responsible for a variety of tasks that include preparing samples for analysis, performing routine tests, and reporting findings to medical personnel. This role requires a strong understanding of laboratory equipment, procedures, and safety protocols, as well as the ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines. As a key member within the laboratory team, the Medical Laboratory Technician collaborates closely with physicians, healthcare scientists, and other medical staff to ensure that patients receive timely and accurate diagnostic information.


Responsibilities

  • Collect and prepare biological samples for laboratory analysis in a timely manner.
  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests accurately and efficiently.
  • Calibrate, operate, and maintain standard laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the laboratory environment.
  • Document test results accurately and maintain laboratory records and logs.
  • Maintain quality control by performing proficiency testing and equipment calibration.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues with laboratory equipment or procedures.
  • Communicate test results clearly and effectively to healthcare professionals.
  • Stay informed about the latest laboratory methods and safety practices through ongoing education.
  • Assist in the training and orientation of new laboratory personnel as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and laboratory results at all times.
  • Participate in laboratory staff meetings and contribute to discussions on improvements.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field is required.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by a recognized board.
  • Minimum of two years' experience working in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, and quality assurance protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaborative teamwork.
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documenting and reporting findings.
