Job Description

The role of a Medical Laboratory Technician is an essential position within the healthcare industry, providing vital support in diagnosing and preventing diseases. As a technician, you will work under the supervision of Medical Technologists or Laboratory Managers to collect and analyze bodily fluids, tissue samples, and other substances. Your contributions will aid in the detection of diseases, disorders, and medical conditions, influencing the medical decisions made by healthcare providers. Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy are critical in ensuring the reliability of test results. This role also demands adherence to safety and ethical standards, ensuring the well-being of both patients and colleagues. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, possesses strong analytical skills, and is familiar with the operations of sophisticated laboratory equipment.


Responsibilities

  • Collect, label, and prepare biological samples and specimens for analysis.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests in accordance with standard protocols and procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory equipment and workspace.
  • Operate and calibrate sophisticated laboratory instruments, ensuring proper functionality.
  • Record and interpret test data, ensuring reliability and accuracy in results.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines to protect against contamination and infection.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to discuss test results and procedures.
  • Maintain detailed logs and records of all laboratory procedures and test results.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new laboratory protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety standards in the laboratory.
  • Participate in continuing education and training to stay updated with new practices.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to trainee technicians and other laboratory staff.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field is required.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by a recognized body preferred.
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting is highly desirable.
  • Solid understanding of laboratory safety standards and protocols.
  • Proficiency with laboratory information systems and data entry processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with healthcare teams.
