Job Description

As a key player in the supply chain process, the Materials Manager oversees the planning, procurement, storage, and distribution of materials. The role demands a strategic thinker who is adept at enhancing the efficiency of operations and ensuring the timely availability of materials to meet production requirements. The Materials Manager works closely with various departments, such as production, quality control, and supply chain, to optimize inventory levels and streamline processes. This touchpoint role requires the ability to negotiate with suppliers, manage risks, and implement cost-saving initiatives while ensuring adherence to safety and compliance standards. Successful candidates will have a keen ability to forecast needs accurately and maintain a balance between adequate supply and cost-effectiveness.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective material management strategies and policies.
  • Monitor and analyze inventory levels to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Liaise with suppliers to negotiate prices and ensure a reliable supply chain.
  • Coordinate with production teams to align materials availability with production schedules.
  • Oversee the receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials and develop reports for senior management.
  • Establish and enforce standard operating procedures for inventory control.
  • Identify and assess potential supply chain risks and develop mitigation plans.
  • Lead cost reduction initiatives while ensuring quality and availability of materials.
  • Manage a team of materials handlers and warehouse staff effectively.
  • Collaborate with other departments to forecast material needs accurately.
  • Evaluate and implement technologies for improving materials management efficiency.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in materials management or related roles.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in inventory management software.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and experience dealing with vendors and suppliers.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic operational plans effectively.
  • Thorough understanding of supply chain processes and safety compliance regulations.
  • Experience with ERP systems and materials management software is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills are essential for this role.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage deadlines effectively.
