Job Description

The Materials Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of an organization’s supply chain. This key position entails overseeing the planning, procurement, storage, control, and distribution of materials necessary for a company's production process. The successful candidate will optimize inventory management and reduce costs while maintaining product quality and availability. This involves collaboration with various departments, including production, purchasing, and logistics, to align the material needs with business goals. The Materials Manager is tasked with tracking performance metrics, developing strategies for improvements, and mitigating risks in material availability. This position is ideal for someone with strong leadership skills, proficiency in data analytics, and a keen eye for efficiency.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies for efficient materials management and inventory control.
  • Coordinate procurement processes ensuring timely purchasing of necessary materials and supplies.
  • Monitor inventory levels consistently and adjust orders to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to negotiate favorable terms for the acquisition of materials.
  • Oversee the material storage system ensuring safety and easy accessibility of inventories.
  • Liaise with the production team to align material availability with manufacturing schedules.
  • Lead and develop a team of materials management professionals to achieve departmental goals.
  • Utilize data analytics tools to forecast requirements and prevent supply chain disruptions.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and organizational standards in materials management.
  • Develop policies and procedures for improved efficiency in the materials management process.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on supply chain performance and areas for improvement.
  • Manage budgets effectively to ensure cost-efficiency in materials procurement and handling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in materials management or inventory control.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and enterprise resource planning tools.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills for effective supplier management.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and derive actionable insights for decision making.
