Job Description

The Materials Manager is a pivotal role within an organization, tasked with overseeing the planning, procurement, storage, control, and distribution of materials and products according to company needs and customer requirements. This role is essential in maintaining the efficiency and quality of the supply chain. As a Materials Manager, you will work closely with various departments to ensure the smooth operation of material flow and inventory control. You will be responsible for managing relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, minimizing costs, and maximizing efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction. Your expertise will contribute significantly to the financial and operational success of the company by optimizing material costs and processes.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective material management strategies to support operational goals.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to meet production and customer requirements efficiently.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to negotiate contracts that ensure cost-effective procurement.
  • Supervise the material handling team to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Analyze supply chain data and processes to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and management of inventory records and systems.
  • Coordinate with other departments like production, engineering, and finance for seamless operations.
  • Resolve any material shortages or discrepancies in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Conduct regular audits of material handling processes to maintain accuracy and compliance.
  • Liaise with logistics and transportation teams to optimize delivery schedules and routes.
  • Develop contingency plans to manage supply chain risks and disruptions effectively.
  • Report on material management performance, analyzing key metrics and proposing improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in material management or a similar supply chain role.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience in supplier relationship management.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and ERP systems is required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership abilities and experience managing and developing a team.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
