Job Description:

The Material Inspector will be part of the site supervision team and will work under the direction of the Resident Engineer to ensure the quality and compliance of materials used on Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) projects. The role involves site inspections, material conformity checks, and coordination with the contractor to ensure adherence to project specifications and approved standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect site conditions prior to the start of construction activities. Verify site compatibility with the designed permanent works specific to STP infrastructure.
  • Check for potential obstructions and document existing conditions, including utilities, equipment, and surrounding assets that may be affected by the works.
  • Ensure that all existing facilities and utilities are adequately protected before construction begins.
  • Review all delivered materials and equipment on site for conformance with approved material submittals, samples, and technical specifications. Report discrepancies to the Resident Engineer.
  • Verify appropriate storage and handling of materials to prevent damage or contamination, particularly for critical STP components such as mechanical equipment, valves, piping, and process-related items.
  • Inspect the construction of both temporary and permanent works to confirm compliance with contract requirements, approved shop drawings, and applicable QA/QC standards.
  • Maintain daily records including logs, test results, and progress of works as per Contract Administration Procedures Manual.
  • Monitor safety compliance and site progress; promptly report any safety hazards or concerns to the RE.
  • Assist in the inspection of completed works, including preparing punch lists, supporting testing and commissioning of STP systems, and participating in handover activities.
  • Review and comment on RFIs and material-related variance requests submitted by the contractor, providing technical input and recommendations.
  • Interpret technical drawings and specifications, and enforce compliance during material installation and usage.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Relevant technical diploma or certification in Civil, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering.

Experience:
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in material inspection and laboratory testing, with a strong focus on STP or water/wastewater treatment projects.
