Job Purpose

Our Corporate and Customer Research Team delivers strategic insights by analysing customer attitudes and behaviours through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and advanced data analysis.

We are seeking a Market Research Manager to lead and oversee the team, managing research analysts and budgets to ensure the effective delivery of high-quality, actionable insights and recommendations. The Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end management of research projects, leveraging technologies like SPSS, Power BI, and generative AI, while fostering the professional development of team members. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills, as well as a proven track record of managing both people and budgets.

In This Role, You Will

  • Manage the research needs for designated business units; identifying and developing projects to support end users, based on clear objectives. Brief suppliers for specific studies approved by respective heads of businesses.
  • Manage external suppliers used for conducting research projects to ensure the best deal is provided in a timely and accurate manner. Also manage external research consultants responsible for providing relevant industry information utilised to enhance research projects conducted; summarise / distribute results to provide senior management with feedback to be reviewed and implemented in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Develop in conjunction with the business unit an annual research activity plan, including corporate and in-market research projects. Provide the business with the budgetary data to make necessary budget provision to support this plan.
  • Challenge the business units with regards all proposed research to ensure the research remains business critical and meets clearly defined objectives. Plan, control and monitor their research budget as per set objectives. Produce research expenditure update and reconciliation to ensure budgets are being used efficiently and effectively, making recommendations for the re-deployment of funds into priority projects to suit commercial and strategic objectives.
  • Manage and coach direct reports, guiding them to improved performance through continuous training and development. To ensure that interim and year-end reviews are carried out in a timely and thorough manner via HR Review and that the objectives are measurable and monitored. To deal with staff issues as they arise offering solutions and support. To ensure that staff undertakes training as identified in their personal and professional development plan.
  • Own and drive the short term and long term quality management strategies for the department by establishing and maintaining up-to-date quality control standards and procedures that are aligned to industry bodies such as Market Research Society (MRS) and / or European Society for Opinion and Market Research (ESOMAR). Conduct random and planned quality inspections, take remedial action to ensure processes are efficient and results are accurate.
  • Manage the internal / external quality control systems and processes to monitor suppliers. Set up processes to monitor fieldwork, data entry and code frames, translations, coding etc. Recommend new processes, develop and implement.
  • Own and drive the automation processes for continuous research projects. Recommend enhancements, create specifications, implement and prepare budgets for them.
  • Own and drive the acquisition of new technological solutions by researching, evaluating and implementing new IT solutions that will help keep the department aligned with industry trends, as well as ensure continuous improvements in efficiency. Transform business requirements into IT specifications and documentation (a credible business case, functional specification and a project plan), in tandem with IT Services.
  • Influence senior management to ensure buy in for implementation of any new developments.
  • Manage the implementation of Emirates Group policies and approach towards use or otherwise of web based surveys and internal data, understand local data protection laws and ensure compliance. To ensure Emirates Groups interests are always protected.
  • Manage continuous monitoring of the Emirates Group brands through effective brand tracking studies. Facilitate impactful and effective advertising by providing maximum insights from testing, measurement and tracking programmes, to feed into the Corporate Communications planning process and propose recommendations. Deliver a quarterly research review with proposed recommendations from all Corporate Communications research conducted.
  • Manage the `Emirates Hub research community by leading and guiding key internal stakeholders to use this new efficient and cost effective channel for gaining consumer insights. Provide topic specific reports for the concerned line departments and manage a general `Emirates Hub newsletter providing all key internal stakeholders with strategic insights across the Emirates customer journey.
  • Manage and develop the database of research and agency submissions on customer and competitor profile held on the Market Research SharePoint site. Provide relevant strategic consumer insights such as market demographics and psychographics from other in-house research that will also support advertising agency briefs. Provide and control content, for internally managed research, for the Insights section on EmPower and optimise growth and sharing of relevant insights with key internal stakeholders.
  • Support Manager Market Research in the selection of research agencies specialising in brand and advertising research, and actively participate in agency performance appraisals by feeding back on research capabilities as required to optimise agency relationships and effectiveness of Emirates network marketing communications.
  • The job holder along with Manager Market Research will develop and maintain research links with established external parties i.e. airline bodies and airlines to ensure maximum benefit in furthering our corporate research capabilities. Represent the Group in activities within the research and travel industries (Market Research Society, ESOMAR, IATA) to ensure we remain at the forefront of developments in these fields. Liaise with external research consultants and gain information in order to keep abreast with new research techniques or applications that will benefit the Emirates Group.
  • Own and drive the development of the latest research techniques for the Market Research department, be the primary decision maker for the introduction of the latest research techniques across the Group: researching, evaluating, planning and implementing new research methodologies.

Qualification

To be considered for this role, you must meet the below requirements:

  • Qualifications: Degree or Honours (12+3 or equivalent) in Business/Technology discipline.
  • Experience: 8+ years experience in Commercial, Sales and/or Research Analysis.

Knowledge & Skills

  • In market research out of which in an analyst position, managing staff and suppliers, preferably with an airline or travel related industry.
  • Market Research techniques, good knowledge of MS packages such as Excel, PowerPoint, Access and statistical software such as Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS).
  • Solid understanding of online product development, industry best practices and knowledge of website usability.
  • Project management skills and knowledge of technical solutions to conceptualise sensible product development.
  • Keen interest in staying at the forefront of new research methodologies and adapting it for the benefit of the Emirates Group.
