Regulatory Affairs is a sub-function of Compliance and is focused on providing a shared service to other areas of the Compliance function. Regulatory Affairs roles aim to ensure that there are “no surprises” in relation to dealings with regulators or regulatory developments affecting the Bank, and as they relate to Compliance risks.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Manager Regulatory Affairs, UAE position is expected to support delivery of the Regulatory Affairs sub-function’s activities and seeks to support all parts of the sub-function to:
Operate in accordance with agreed KPIs and to the requirements of the Compliance Operating Model.
Proactively deliver upon the sub-function’s activities to continue to help the Compliance Function navigate the regulatory landscape as that landscape evolves.
Support relevant parts of the Compliance function, including by regular communications and reporting and work in a collaborative way with all stakeholders.
Maintain individuals Primary Regulatory Contact (PRC) status, retain details of PRCs and notify them of their responsibilities
Assist with the organization of, and preparation for, material regulator engagements, including provision of advice and briefings, ensuring actions arising at such meetings are appropriately assigned and tracking actions
Support the country (UAE) to manage requests from Regulators.
Record and report on regulatory engagements, including communications to ensure line of sight on emerging themes arising from engagement with Regulators.
Provide line of sight to key stakeholders on key regulatory deliverables and related activities, including highlighting any potential delivery issues.
Support management to share information and matters of significance with key stakeholders and escalate issues of concern regarding the country’s engagement with regulators to the Country & Regional Head of Regulatory Affairs.
Ensure good quality ENGAGE records are maintained by the country.
Experience & Qualifications
Graduation degree is REQUIRED– to secure a Work Permit.
Significant experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management at HSBC and senior external contacts.
Significant project, operational and people management experience at HSBC.
Continuous improvement and change management experience.
Strong understanding of:
Regulators in UAE and their agenda / approach
Regulation as applicable to a global systemically important financial institution
Good knowledge of compliance risks and industry best practice on HSBC organization and governance structures.
Coordination of processes; and Stakeholder management
Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to negotiate effectively and influence others.
Excellent time management skills, including the ability to handle multiple outputs simultaneously.
Ability to work in a fast-moving, high-pressure environment.
Ability to work independently
Strong analytical skills.
Clear written and oral English and Arabic language skills (Arabic is mandatory)
