Job Description

The Group Tax Manager (Compliance) role would be pivotal in driving the Group Tax Function’s strategy forward, particularly in the areas of automation and insourcing. The Group’s tax compliance objectives are to ensure regulatory compliance in all operating jurisdictions and implementation of a centralised compliance management system built around a robust tax governance framework and internal controls. The taxes covered are primarily Corporate Tax, VAT, Transfer Pricing, WHT, CbCR and Pillar 2. Elements of customs duties, stamp duties, payroll taxes and other related taxes may be relevant from time to time.

The purpose of this role is to review the Group Tax Compliance section in the Tax Strategy and Roadmap to engage in additional planning, propose enhancements and implement the plan with a view to embedding in business as usual (BAU) for the Group.

Tax Compliance

Job Specific Accountabilities

Manage, advise, and improve the tax compliance process, including the review, automation, and digitization of:

  • Local corporate tax returns in compliance with relevant local laws.
  • Local VAT returns in compliance with relevant local laws.
  • Local WHT returns in compliance with relevant local laws.
  • Transfer Pricing requirements for the Group (documentary, disclosure, and design, supporting calculations).
  • Country-by-Country Reporting and Notifications for Group Entities globally.
  • GloBe Tax Filings (and other Pillar 2 requirements).

Following are the specific job descriptions for performing and managing tax compliance tasks:

  • Managing and supervising entities local staff to ensure compliance and efficiency in tax processes.
  • Assessing, appointing, managing, and supervising consultants for specialized tax compliance tasks.
  • Overseeing the preparation and review of tax provisions & tax accruals to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Responding to queries from external auditors and ensuring all audit requirements are met.
  • Verifying the accuracy of tax returns to ensure compliance with local and domestic tax rules.
  • Providing regular tax advice to local teams across the Group on day-to-day transactions.
  • Documenting positions taken and decisions made for transparency and future reference.
  • Setting, tracking, monitoring, and reporting on tax KPIs to ensure compliance objectives are being met.
  • Responsible for monitoring, determining, managing, and settling tax liabilities of Group entities.
  • Coordinating with local teams to determine appropriate reporting structures that ensure compliance with all tax policies.
  • Handling direct contacts and negotiations with local authorities in various jurisdictions, including review and recommendations.
  • Implementing new tax requirements/jurisdictions, including conducting impact assessments and designing governance, processes, people, and systems resourcing around new requirements/jurisdictions.
  • Overseeing compliance requirements to digitize and automate systems and processes with a commitment to continuous improvement and best practice principles.
  • Solving complex business-related tax issues and problems and advising on available options and/or alternatives.

Tax Reporting And Financial Analysis

  • Prepare and work on group tax accounting/financial reporting (corporate tax provisions, current and deferred tax accounting, and tax disclosure reporting)
  • Oversee tax reporting and financial analysis to ensure accurate and timely reporting of tax positions and liabilities.
  • Review and analyze tax provisions and accruals to ensure compliance and accuracy.

Tax Risk Management

  • Identify and mitigate tax-related risks, including assessing the impact of legislative changes, tax audits, and international tax implications.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify and address potential compliance risks.
  • Tax research and interpretation
  • Stay updated on tax laws, regulations, and industry trends to provide guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Interpret tax implications of business decisions and transactions to ensure compliance and optimal tax outcomes.

Tax Audits And Disputes

  • Manage tax audits and disputes in various jurisdictions, including responding to inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Coordinate with inhouse tax legal, external advisors or tax consultants to effectively manage and resolve tax audits or litigation.
  • Represent the organization during tax audits and/or litigation, ensuring the organizations interests are protected.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with internal teams such as Group and Local finance, legal, and operations to integrate tax considerations into business processes, contracts, and transactions.
  • Provide tax advice and support to various departments to ensure tax-efficient business practices.

Team Management

  • Work with the Group Head of Global Taxes to lead and mentor a team of tax compliance professionals.
  • Work with the other areas of the Group Tax Team – Governance & Risk, Legal & Advisory, to support on and receive support for interdependent projects and tasks.
  • Provide guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure the teams continuous development and effectiveness.
  • Foster a culture of compliance and continuous improvement within the tax team.

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of direct, indirect, and international tax experience in both compliance and advisory roles, with stakeholder interaction and team management
  • International tax & compliance experience in a Big 4 and/or inhouse in a large MNE (preferably in setting up new tax function)
  • UAE/GCC Experience an advantage
  • Experience in implementing automation and digitization projects within a tax function.
  • Strong understanding of compliance and advisory aspects of Corporate Tax, Transfer Pricing, VAT, CbCR, FATCA, CRS,
  • Alteryx, Tableau, Power BI and knowledge of other technology tools
  • Onesource, PowerTax and/or other tax compliance tools (plus)
