JOB PURPOSE:
Provide legal consultation and advisory to the various departments within the company including advice on insurance issues (e.g. claims, products etc.) and corporate, commercial, labor and litigation matters.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Providing legal guidance to all business units in the Gulf.
- Closely coordinating with compliance functions on legal and regulatory related matters.
- Negotiating, analyzing, drafting, reviewing and interpreting various legal documents for and on behalf of the company.
- Instructing external counsel to advise and/or act on behalf of the company on any given legal matter, as well as following up with regards to the company’s litigation and managing the daily interactions with external counsel.
- Interacting with government departments and agencies on various regulatory matters such as proposed laws, regulations and government policies in relation to the company’s activities.
- Providing legal advice and revision to the company’s internal policies and procedures.
- Reviewing the company’s products and insurance documents for the purpose of complying with the applicable local laws and regulations, and interacting with the regulators for the purpose of acquiring the regulatory approval on the products/policies.
- Monitoring and identifying all regulations, laws and regulatory guidelines and reporting them to management and various departments, and providing advice where required about the impact of such regulations on the company’s operations.
- Providing the company’s various departments with the legal advice related to day to day business, including claims related questions and customer complaints and requests.
- Maintaining an organized and efficient filing, recoding and legal reference system to facilitate the retrieval of information when necessary and preparing departmental reports and correspondence.
- Attending to various assignments delegated primarily from Head of Legal- Gulf, and occasionally from EMEA Legal Counsel or other concerned functions.
COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: All Gulf’s department heads.
External: Law Firms, Regulators, Government Departments and Agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
- Should be a Graduate in Law. A master’s degree in law or management from an internationally reputable university is a strong advantage.
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in a similar legal advisor position (preferably in the insurance industry).
- Must be a bi-lingual with an excellent command of English and Arabic (for all drafting, communicating and negotiating purposes).
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Proficient knowledge of company operations, products and services.
- Proficient familiarity with business systems and transactions.
- Proficient knowledge of policies governing business ethics, practices, and requirements. Proficient understanding of regulatory environment.
